The extraction is complex because of other metals present and only worthwhile since the rhodium that is yielded in the rhodium extraction is the basis of very important catalysts in other industries. Preliminary treatment of the ore or base metal byproduct is required to remove silver, gold, palladium, and platinum. Evaporation to dryness and burning under hydrogen gas gives you the pure rhodium resulting from the rhodium extraction process.
